God's Protection

Last night when my middle one said prayers, everything focused around God's protection. We are headed out of town this weekend so she prayed that God would protect us on the road. My sister and her kids will be on the road, too. She prayed they would arrive at their destination safely.

I have had protection on my mind this week. We have new little visitors in our backyard. Six kittens and their mama have made our back deck their home. I am trying hard to befriend the mama cat and the kittens. We would like to be able to find them a good home (preferably not ours). However, this mama cat is afraid I will hurt her kittens so she is not ready to be friendly. Every morning we stare at each other.

This morning she was on the deck and the bowl that I have been filling with milk was empty. I went outside to fill it back up again. She hissed at me and hissed at me. She started to walk away from the bowl the closer I got. She watched me fill the bowl up with milk and then I walked back in the house. As soon as I was in the house she came back to the bowl and was joined by all six kittens. Here is a picture that I took through the window. She won't let me step foot outside to get a better one.

This silly little cat saga has me thinking about God's protection. I know that God is always with me. As we go into the weekend I wanted to leave you with Psalm 91."Because he loves me," says the Lord, "I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name."

Psalm 91

1 He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High
will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.

2 I will say of the LORD, "He is my refuge and my fortress,
my God, in whom I trust."

3 Surely he will save you from the fowler's snare
and from the deadly pestilence.

4 He will cover you with his feathers,
and under his wings you will find refuge;
his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.

5 You will not fear the terror of night,
nor the arrow that flies by day,

6 nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness,
nor the plague that destroys at midday.

7 A thousand may fall at your side,
ten thousand at your right hand,
but it will not come near you.

8 You will only observe with your eyes
and see the punishment of the wicked.

9 If you make the Most High your dwelling—
even the LORD, who is my refuge-

10 then no harm will befall you,
no disaster will come near your tent.

11 For he will command his angels concerning you
to guard you in all your ways;

12 they will lift you up in their hands,
so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.

13 You will tread upon the lion and the cobra;
you will trample the great lion and the serpent.

14 "Because he loves me," says the LORD, "I will rescue him;
I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name.

15 He will call upon me, and I will answer him;
I will be with him in trouble,
I will deliver him and honor him.

16 With long life will I satisfy him
and show him my salvation."

It seems that there have been many times that I have leaned on the Lord for protection and that Psalm has always been one of my favorites. There was a period in my life when I was full force under attack and every single day that I arrived at work I prayed that before I did anything else!

I hope that you can find a place for all of those kittens. I really wish people would both spay/neuter their animals, but also not let them roam free, especially when they are not fixed. We took in a stray kitten recently that couldn't have been any older than 4 weeks. We put a sign out but nobody claimed him and this is the worse time of year to try to find a home for a kitten, there are so many of them to be had. He seems right at home here, but with 2 cats in the house already and 2 dogs, we are kinda crowded!!

Thanks for stopping by and visiting my blog this week - it's nice getting to know you, and don't worry... sometimes I make MYSELF hungry looking at my past recipes LOL!!

Have a wonderful weekend.

That is a beautiful Psalms.

When we travel I pray not only for protection but for an uneventful trip. I was commuting the kids to school in another town when we first moved. I hit black ice and lost control of the van. By the the grace of God it did not flip over on us and we were just fine.

That evening I was talking to my husband about it and my prayers. He said that God did keep up safe-no one got hurt, which he did. Now I pray for uneventful as well.

Have a great trip.

Wow! What a prayer warrior your daughter is. I pray when I have children someday, they would be like that; all up in the Lord's presence.

I love that verse and it touches my heart each time I read it. God is great and all powerful.
