My Hero

I saw an ad for the Fireproof movie in my Today's Christian Woman magazine. The headline captured my eye and my heart. It was a simple statement, but so very powerful. It read, "Is your husband your hero?"

I have been thinking about posting a little about my husband. First I was going to do it for our anniversary, then Father's Day and his birthday (they were one day apart), but I didn't ever get around to it. Ever since I read that headline, I have been thinking about this post.

My husband is my hero. When I think about my life before I met him, I realize that he rescued me. But, he wasn't just my hero when we first met, or when we were newlyweds, he is still my hero everyday.

Our story isn't full of romance, but our story is full of love. We were both lost twenty-somethings that needed to find each other and then together we found Christ. That is what makes our story so beautiful.

Our story isn't pretty, in fact, to a lot of Christians, our story is a little ugly. But it is our story, our testimony, and it is a perfect example of God's grace.

Not long after we met, we found out we were expecting. We were both out of college and in careers so it wasn't as shocking as a teen pregnancy, but it was still a shock. We decided right away that we were going to get married. Six months after we met, we were married at a huge ceremony with over 400 guests.

I gave up my career to move to a small town where he worked for a bank. When we were married, we were still strangers to each other. Can you imagine being a new wife and not even knowing the types of foods your husband likes? It wasn't easy. Not to mention, my 22 year old figure was quickly growing.

I would like to say that we found Christ right away in our marriage, but we didn't. Three years later and another baby and we still hadn't found Christ. It was just before our second child's first birthday that our eyes started to open. Christ had been with us since the beginning.

We had a pretty good marriage before we were saved. However, we had no idea what we were missing. Christ placed Chad in my life to rescue me and then a few years later He rescued our family. God is so good.

There is a lot more to our story. God continues to work on our marriage everyday. My husband is my hero and Christ is my Savior.

And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love. 1 Corinthians 13:13

I wish more women thought of their husbands as their heroes rather than another person they have to put up with around the house who they demand/I mean "expect" should do their "fair share" around the house and should plan all the dates and...and... My marriage isn't a fairytale but my husband has always been a hero to me. I am so fortunate that I got him!

Oh Amy, this is a beautiful post. My husband is my hero, too. I'll write about it and post it tomorrow.
Thank you so much for sharing!

Amy what a beautiful couple you are! Thank you for sharing a personal story and being so honest! My hubby and I became Christians with each other. Him first and then me a while later! God really works in amazing ways. I might post about my experiences sometime soon!
We were both 25 when we were saved!

I can relate, my husband and I were pregnant 3 months after we meet and married 3 months after that. I know that God sent Matt to me, to rescue me. For many the first year is so wonderful and full of joy. For us it was challenging to say the least. But, we made. Then, about 2 years into our marriage I met Jesus, and from that point on we have grow closer together everyday. My husband is my best friend and there is no one on the face of this earth that I would rather spend time with then him. Thanks so much for the wonderful post.

What a beautiful love story you have.
We have so much in common.
My hubby and I did not come to know Christ until a year after we were married.
We got pregnant with our son before we were married. Actually, we didn't know until the day after our wedding when I took the test.

Of course no one believes us and some think we got married because I was pregnant.
We moved from LA to a small town where my mom lives.

Anyway, thanks for sharing such a great story.

I loved reading this! It's wonderful that you feel this way about you husband. I was just thinking about how grateful I am that my husband goes of to work faithfully each morning, rain or shine, to help provide for our family.

I'm glad you and your husband found Christ, and each other! :0)

Okay first of all! Fireproof is THE best movie I have ever seen! A must see, if you think your marriage is perfect or not! Isn't it awesome to have a hero in your real life! My hubby is mine too, and our story is pretty similar to yours. Jesus saved us too. Thank you for sharing!! :)

This story IS indeed beautiful. I look forward to hearing the rest. It is the most awkward experiences that make Christ so real in our lives!
You've got it going on!

Everyone's story involves some bumps along the road. I love how the movie "Fireproof" showed the power of love between husband and wife.

Keep on keeping on- run your race!

Good morning,
visiting from SITS...happy Saturday Sharefest.

I loved the movie Fireproof. And I would have to say my honey is my hero. He gets up every morning without fail to provide for our family. What is more superhero than that.

Have a great weekend.

I read this, and think that this is impossible in my marriage. I have a desire to follow Christ (althogh I'm not saved)... but my husband is not interested. It is so difficult to 'walk together'

I think your story is incredibly beautiful! Do you realize what most people would have done in your situation? And do your realize that most people wouldn't still be together? Girl, it's beautiful and I praise the Lord for it ;)

Such a great story Amy!
Marriages are better when the couple is united and loving Christ helps give them something to unify around.
